How Much Does SST PURE Cost?
The average cost to SST PURE a shaft across the SST licensee network is about $45, and it is sometimes included in the price of a new club. PUREing a club you already own (RetroPURE) costs more, up to about $100 per club, because the club has to be disassembled, analyzed and rebuilt.

Why does RetroPURE cost more?
RetroPUREing requires more labor. The club must be disassembled, the shaft analyzed and aligned, and the club rebuilt in the identified PURE orientation. A new shaft being built into a club for the first time skips the disassembly step.
What is RetroPURE?
RetroPURE is SST PURE’s service for clubs that are already assembled. The club is disassembled, the shaft is analyzed and aligned, and the club is rebuilt in its SST PURE orientation, back to your original specifications unless you ask for a change.
Can I send my clubs or shafts directly to SST PURE?
Yes. SST PURE offers a mail-in RetroPURE service for assembled clubs, and golfers can also send loose shafts to be PUREd. See the SST PURE shop for current pricing, what is included and shipping instructions, or contact SST PURE before sending.
If your driver, fairway wood or hybrid is adjustable, tell SST PURE or your fitter which adapter setting you play. Learn why adapter settings matter.
Is SST PURE worth the money?
That depends on how much you value removing equipment variables. SST PURE gives you a measurable shaft-alignment process backed by independent robot testing, in which PUREd drivers finished 13.2 yards closer to the center line on average, delivered through professional fitters and club builders. Weigh that against the cost, and keep in mind that controlled test results are not a guarantee of a specific yardage or accuracy gain for every golfer. See the testing and data.
Independent Testing: Plugged In Golf
Plugged In Golf, an independent publisher, found PUREd 6-irons averaged over 7 yards more total distance in their original test, and a PUREd driver averaged +6.31 yards of total distance in 2026. Results vary by golfer.
What you are actually buying
PUREing is not a new shaft and it is not a swing lesson. You are paying for analysis of your individual shaft and installation in the stable orientation the SST PURE system identifies. Even premium aftermarket shafts are analyzed individually.
What if you are a beginner?
A beginner usually has more swing-to-swing variation than an elite player, so fitting, lessons and practice may produce bigger immediate gains. That does not make shaft orientation irrelevant; it means you should prioritize spending based on your goals and budget. Independent testing with slower-swinging golfers found meaningful gains in regular, senior and ladies flex groups.
A simple decision framework
Ask four questions:
- Am I confident I have the right shaft?
- Am I investing in a precise build?
- Do I value eliminating avoidable equipment variables?
- Is the cost reasonable relative to the total investment?
If the answers are yes, PUREing fits logically with the rest of the build.
